“Excuse me.”

Please don’t be talking to me, Claude thought.

“Excuse me. Sir?”

“Sir, would you mind moving over?” the flight attendant asked. “I think you’re in the wrong seat.”

Wrong seat. OK, where’s the right seat? Claude wondered, checking his ticket and the anxious couple standing in the narrow aisle.

“Oh! I guess I’m supposed to be over here,” he said, shuffling to the window seat. “Sorry about that.”

“No problem,” the man said, moving all two hundred and fifty pounds of himself next to Claude. “My wife needs the aisle seat,” he explained. “Bad leg.”

Nodding, Claude returned to his laptop.…
